I was accepted to a MSN-FNP program for spring 2012 and have been so excited. I was granted $22000 a semester in student loans, I was going to work 2 days a week, go to school full time, buy graduate school hlth insurance and was all prepared. My wife and I had prepared financially for me to be able to do this. Then it happened the school lowered my loan amount to $12,500. Now I'm so disgusted. I can't pay our mortgage on that and pay for health insurance and support my family. I am at a loss for what to do. Does anyone out there know what I can do? I need advice. My wife works full time and can't do anymore and I was accepted to a full time program no part time available. I just feel like giving up at this point any advice would be appreciated. I have been praying about this but I need some advice PLEASE.

Any way to check into student loans through your local credit union or something? Many will extend student loans to members. Just a thought.

They also usually offer GradPlus loans for graduate students but at a little higher amount than the Stafford loans. This should make up the difference between the Stafford and cost of attendance, which should include living expenses. So while it is more loans, maybe ask your school about these.

Did the school lower your federal loan package amount, or your "cost of attendance"?

If they just lowered your federal loan package, there are lots of options for you: GradPlus loans, private loans, etc. Not all great options, but at least there are choices.

If they lowered your cost of attendance, that's a larger issue. Some schools will adjust the living expenses portion of the estimated cost of attendance, and some will not.

Have you spoken to your financial aid office to discuss the situation?
