How does the Lottery work?

The acceptance procedures vary from school to school. You should really meet with a counselor and they will be able to fill you in on all the details.

I'm trying to do just that but even our Health Sciences counselors are backed up. It's nearly impossible to get in and the regular counselors just direct me back to them. It's so frustrating. I have a feeling that it's just a precursor of things to come. I was wondering if anyone could share their own lottery experiences.

I got into school via lottery. I've found that they don't tell you too much about the process. For my situation, I found that those who go in the very first semester tended to have a high GPA. Maybe it was a coincidence, but the majority of us who got right in had this in common.

That's very interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind. Luckily, I'm a perfectionist so I always try for the best grades anyway. I appreciate your insight.

Does your school have any informational meetings? I orginally met the health science counselor because our school has infomational meetings every monday regarding the health science programs.

At my school it's gpa and a lottery. The highest gpa gets put on the list and if there is like 40 people with a 3.75, then they get put in a lottery.

They have a Health Science: RN Program Orientation on Friday that I'm planning to attend. I believe we have them monthly here. I will be there with bells on!!!

That's the best thing to do, especially when you can't get in to see a counselor. I learned everything I needed to know at the informational meeting. Good Luck!! It sounds like you're headed in the right direction.

we have those here too andthey are informative and also our only source of info, the department won't talk to you at all they just point you toward the workshops. So you might need to go more then once write down questions you might have and most importantly don't get discouraged! I think they try to weed alot of people out thru the hoops they make us jump.

At my school we are not allowed to talk to a nursing advisor/counselor/anyone from the CON until we first attend one of the info sessions or are admitted to the school. If you ask any questions, they tell you you have to go to the info thing first. Probably to weed out the "Can I get in with a 2.3 GPA if I have experience?" type questions when my school admits on a GPA basis only. At the one I went to there were only about 10 people there, so she was able to answer a lot of our individual questions. Good luck!
