How did you get started?

I graduate in December (LPN to RN), I'm an older student (35) and had the chance to observe in the NICU this past week. I felt like this was exactly the kind of nurse I'm supposed to be.

So...my question is, how to get started? How did you decide to be a NICU nurse, and how did you get 'in'?

I'm in my final clinical rotation, pediatrics, and then we have our transitions clinical, I'm hoping to do it in OB.

Teeheehee.

I had NEVER even considered NICU as an option. I am NOT one of those people that had to be pried away from the newborn nursery during clinicals. I applied for an L/D position, and the NI manager got to me first! LOL! Now when I go down for a delivery or get pulled down there, I am just like, get me out of here!

I think for every NI nurse that has know that was the job for them since they were in high school, there is probably two that just sort of "fell" into it as I did.

One thing about it though, you either love it or hate it.:wink2:
