How do you get a job?

Well, make it short and sweet, but it took me a year to get my CNA license in the state of Florida. I went in front of the Board, had letters, documents, you name it, and was finally granted my license. I figured that this was a good starting point to see if I would be able to get my RN. The Board was really supportive, and thanked me for my honesty about my past. I do have felonies from my past, 2002 & 2004 (not a good time in my life). In any case, I survived the process.

Now I am trying to get past HR at the hospitals and as soon as I check do you have a felony - I get an auto NO. Some told me because I am not from this area and didn't go to school here and know the staff from clinicals that I won't get past HR at any place. I was told that I might have better luck when I start my RN program as it will give me time to shine and hopefully shed a good light on me and hope that I can overcome the hiring nightmare.

I am open and honest about my past. I have nothing to hide and don't try to. But it is down right depressing. Anyone care to chime in and give me their .02??

Any help would be great! Thanks

Are you sure you are going to be able to attend nursing school with felonies? If so, I would think you would be able to get hired somewhere, especially if you have good references from your instructors. All you can really do is be honest. Some places only go back 7 years, so that will probably be in your favor. I have misdemeanors, and it hasn't kept me from getting a job. I guess too it would depend on what you were charged with. If it's nonviolent, I would think you would be ok. Good luck.
