How would you follow up?

Published

After a job interview, if you haven't heard back from the interviewer in the specified amount of time, how would you follow up?

I interviewed on a Wednesday, and was told I should hear something by the end of the week, or sometime the next week. I even sent a hand written thank you note after the interview.

Its been 2 weeks, and I haven't heard a peep.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

If it's (Just) after the time they specified, you have nothing to worry about.

Sometimes when I submitted applicant's fingerprints to federal and state agencies, it took some up to 3 weeks (especially if you have lived in and worked in several places. Furthermore, there's only a million other things going on, and usually my applicants were my (when I get everything else done for the day) lesser priorities of the day (especially if I wasn't just terribly short).

I don't won't to hurt your feelings (actually attempting to uplift you), but hiring "new" nurses is usually not just a "high" priority. It's a long term fix. You will have to orient- which is going to slow down another staff nurse, so until they "jump" me, I know they will pull nurses, we will "hack-it," or the census might even be real low right now (Spring has Sprung!)

Also, I would say about about 50% of HRs Never call within the time they say they will. My main point, it just takes time, and the hiring process can be a slow one. Even slower now with downed economy, and lower seasonal census.

What you should do: Write a letter or E-mail letting the person of concern know that you are still very interested in the position, but please, know calling is just gonna catch a busy nurse off guard, and do you no good. You are going to get a "lame" excuse, and she/he is going to forget they even spoke to you. If you send a letter/email, it will be opened-during the time they have the "time" to give it the proper consideration, and with your phone # on it, you just may then get that call.

Just be patient. Its nothing to go a week over what was said.;)

I would call the HR department if they have one and talk to the recruiter for that department and see if the position has been filled. If you applied at a large organization it can take a month or two to hear anything because they have to follow protocols and sometimes they interview people for a very long time. Lets say somebody was supposed to interview a week after you and she was the last person they had to interview and she calls and reschedules you have to wait.
