Hiring freeze?

I just looked at the 'job listings' for Centura and Exempla hospitals on their websites. OMG! there were only 150 for centura (that is all the facilities in CO) and 51 for Exempla! I haven't looked at job postings for CO since I left the state 1 year ago but i remember 1-1.5 yrs ago there were hundreds of jobs posted on each site.

Other than that I don't know how easy it is to get CO nsg jobs but it would probably be a good idea to get the job lined up before relocating. Let us know how it goes and good luck if CO is where you really want to be.

The ecomony is making it tough for the RN job market here. From what I've heard even though the hospital website have the jobs posted, they aren't always accurate. So that makes it even tougher to guess if they are hiring.

hope3456, it is true that there are tons of job postings on the denver/boulder hospitals websites (boulder community hospital does not hire in the current moment though). however, they include prn (which i cannot accept), part times, and positions that are not available anymore. so, there are actually not much left. but i appreciate your input!

denverrn921, thank you for response. from your posting i assume you work in denver. what would be your advice for me, considering the fact that jobs postings are not very accurate on the hospitals' websites? do you think it is a good idea to stop by to see unit manager or supervisor and apply in person? on other hand, i cannot imagine myself randomly going from one unit to another in each hospital in denver/boulder area.

yes, i live and work in denver. i have to tell you the prospects aren't good right now, but don't make yourself a stalker type to the nm. the best bet and safest is to go to the nurse recruitment office and hand deliver your resume. if you've not worked as an rn before or are a new grad; make sure you format your resume to reflect the skills you do have. for example...if you worked as a waitress--those transferable skills include time management and learning to prioritize. make sure you present in a professional manner; no jeans, outrageous outfits, etc. remember to ask the nurse recruiter how they want you to follow up. if you by pass them, this could create tension from them. they have more power than you think. they are often rns themselves and have a tight bond with the nms. to review:

1. write a resume with actual skills you have

2. be professional

3. ask for the guidance of the nurse recruiter

4. ask for the nurse recruiters contact info (email). there is power in the thank you note!!!!

5. don't make demands--ie i only want er, i can't work weekends, i won't consider night shift, etc.

exactly! what i meant was last year there were probably 200+ full time positions posted on each website.....i was surprised that there were hardly any.

If you post your resume on 'yahoo hot jobs' or 'monster.com' or any other online job board, they often times will contact you. Their phone numbers and emails are often posted on the hospital websites as well. I'm sure they would at least give you some insight as to what the job outlook is like in the denver area. let us know what you find out.
