Highline vs TCC

Published

I just finished my pre-req's and will be turning in my application for both of these programs. I don't know my score on the proctored essay for highline, but I have a 4.0 gpa and a previous BA. This gives me full points except for the essay score. Anyway, I'm pretty confident I did well on the essay, and was wondering if anyone has a recommendation on which program is better. Any information you have good or bad would be greatly appreciated. I live right down the street from TCC, but liked the Highline campus better. Thank you!

i attended tcc and graduated about two years ago. my coworkers attended highline and this is what i hear: at tcc we go into a preceptorship program where we follow an rn for about 3 months (akin to a residency program) whereas at highline, they do not have a preceptorship program. that is why in some instances i feel that tcc has the upper hand. furthermore, tcc is highly competetive but with a gpa of 4.0 i do not think you will have any problems. also clinical rotations are comparable. i feel that tcc has better teaching hospitals in the area than highline. except when it comes to the emergency rotation where highline students go to harborview (level 1 trauma) and tcc either go to tg or st. joes (level 2 trauma). sorry to ramble.

I am a bit partial since I went to Highline and I work with a couple of their clinical instructors but I would say Highline has a better program. The last person posting was partially right about Highline facts. They in fact do clinicals at Harborview, Valley, St. Francis, Highline, Regional Hospital (long term vent pts) and Seattle VA. Some MED SUrg rotations are done at Harborview as well. I did time in the TICU, BICU, PICU, and Trauma/Ortho Floors at Harborview in the LPN to RN program. It is very competitive to get in though. Furthermore GPA is great but it is not the only thing. My wife had a GPA of 3.98 and was passed over by HIghline and TCC because she did not have experience. She now goes to Seattle U and just finished her first year. Don't place all your dreams on your GPA because it is just one small portion of the big picture.
