HH- Do you work weekends and holidays?

Hello everyone.

I am considering getting into HH after being a staff RN at a hospital for 3.5 years. I wanted to know what hours are like during the week and if you ever work weekends? How do holidays work?

I would greatly appreciate any input!

Also if possible, please let me know if you are working for a major HH agency that I would be familiar with so I know what company does what type of scheduling. Thanks!

If scheduled, yes, but this varies with the agency, and the employment agreement with the agency. Just because nurse X has weekends off with agency A, does not mean Nurse Y will be discussing a position with weekends off with the very same agency. The employers will be hiring to fill their needs at that time. When considering a job posting, it is wise to make a call to get the general info first.

I work 2 of 6 recognized holidays per year. I also work every 3rd weekend.

My kiddles are grown, so I sign up for holidays often--I'd like the younger nurses to have that time with their kids, and the older nurses to have that time with their families! We generally only do emergency visits on major holidays. We're expected to sign up for first call at least one night a week, one weekend every 4-6 weeks, and second call one weekend every 4-6 weeks.

You get to open clients when you work weekends so it's a nice way to build your client list.
