Helpful Tips for Continuing Education.

Continued education question up for grabs...

I am finishing my last class and graduate with a BS in Human Services next month. I am also finishing up nursing pre-requisites. (So far my GPA is 3.71)

I have decided to continue on with my RN but am not sure which route to take

An accelerated Bachelors in nursing program and which one??? Love some suggestions -OR- Apply to a C.College and finish that way.

I am working full-time as a CNA for the needed experience...

It may also help to know that I live in a rural coastal town in Oregon.

Love some feedback, suggestion welcome...

With already having a BS, a two year program would be fine in my opinion. If you think that you may go into some other area of health care that still requires an RN or where an RN would be preferred, than having that BS will make you more marketable. For instance, you may find that you want to go into areas like research, pharmaceutical sales, legal, business administration, teaching, business management. Some of these areas do require a BSN even though you have a BS in something else. It's because the BSN includes the research, leadership, the additional biology and chemistry courses, and community health that you normally don't get in a two year program.

Since you're going to have a BS anyway, why not consider going for your MSN? There are some bridge programs available for the MSN for people with a bachelors in another subject. If you think that you may be a nurse indefinitely, then it will be well worth it. You can still go into all the aforementioned areas. Of course, the pitfall with both the BSN and MSN is money. You have to decide what your return on investment would be prior to pursuing these programs. Best wishes.
