Help!!!

So, I am trying to not be so hard on myself here...I worked on a postpartum unit as a RN for a year and recently transferred to a new facility to work on a couplet care unit. I have been on orientation for almost 3 weeks already and I still feel like my organization in this new hospital and on this new unit SUCKS!!!! New charting system, new skills, new policies and procedures to learn.....At the end of every shift for the last 3 weeks I felt like I should have done a lot better, and when I try to do things differently the following day I STILL SUCK!!!! I am really trying hard. What should I do?

It's only been 3 weeks. Give yourself a break and some time. It will fall into place. Instead of thinking you SUCK at the end of the day, think of things that you did well or the patients that appreciated your care. Everyone goes thru this when they get to a new place. Be good to you...

Welcome to postpartum! So how many couplets do you have? I am lucky enough to work with only 4 a shift worst case 5. No CNA, or secretary, and no charge RN after 2300, but we manage. Organization comes with time. I used to carry a kitchen multi-timer to help keep me on track, pampered cheff has a great one. I found the hardest thing for me was getting the new charting figured out and joy of joys, we are changing systems this year so I get to learn all over again. I think the most important thing is good patient care. Keep good notes on your report sheet if you don't have time to document right then, and document later. Don't let anyone make you feel bad if you have to stay late to finish documenting after report, we have L.E. for a reason. The patient comes first! You don't have a leg to stand on if a patient has a bad outcome and you were busy charting. Keep your head up, it took me 8 years to even get close to postpartum then another 2 years before I was able to do straight postpartum, you can do this. Sometimes it's a day at a time and others it's an hour at at time, but you will get it figured out.

I am assigned 4 couplets as well. Thankfully we have unit secretaries for every shift and CNA's for every shift except on Sundays.
