hi everyone,
i need some advice. i have traveled 5yrs ago to cali before i was married and some local contracts as well and i really miss it!! i am an adventurous person who gets bored easily with the same old routine. i love my patients (i work MS/resp ICU, i have also done pacu ) i really don't enjoy being a staff nurse in one hospital. we haven't had a raise in 3yrs, our insurance premiums have increased and they stop matching our 403k plan. so it's time to go.... my question is my husband who owns his own business and works at another job is a workalcoholic!! and says he would be bored out of his mind while i work and he doesn't if he travels with me. i can't leave him home because i would miss him terribly and wouldn't enjoy myself. what jobs do some of your spouses do while you are traveling? he is a painter by trade and does all kinds of home improvement jobs... thanks for any advice!!!

Just an idea... maybe he could work for an apartment complex... does he do maintenance/handy stuff too? Maintenance people usually get a free apartment from that complex, and you could pocket the tax free stipend! :)
thanks stephie for your reply, that's a great idea and yes he does that too!! (he is jack of all trades...master of none..just kidding, he actually well skilled)
that gives me some hope because i am getting depressed at my current job... thanks
Hey pat just FYI... I'm EXACTLY the same way with getting bored at my job in the same surroundings, politics, people, etc.... but do not have the opportunity to move/travel until my daughter graduates in 2 years....
so I do Agency nursing in addition to my regular STUPID job and it's AWESOME! I get to explore other hospitals and sometimes new areas of nursing if they're desperate, and get a pretty nice extra paycheck. It definitely kills the boredom and makes me tolerate my current situation better....
Good luck :)
that's a thought too! i'm working on him hard!! until he cracks maybe i can do some agency. hopefully soon afterwards i can travel. thanks for your advice..

Another suggestion to think about...
Check with travel companies that have assignments close to your home, and do "local travel." That's what I've been doing this year. If there's not one available that I like, I take Registry per diem shifts until I find another one I want. You won't get the housing stipend or daily per diem, (unless you commute more than 50 miles), but the hourly pay is very good. It is also a way to find a place you really like, that you might want to make your permanent job.
Remember: The agency doesn't have to be in your state... it's the location of the assignment that counts!
Good luck
