Hello anyone out ther who can give me some advice.
I'm an occupational therapist and have desperately wanted to become a nurse for many years.
I don't know how to go about this....I have a young family and cannot really do an "accelerated BSN program" as I can't/don't want to spend loads of time away from my family.
Anyone know of online programs that I can get started with, or even do most of an RN degree? WHat are other options that would take me through it without taking up too much of my time all at once? If I could just get my feet wet, I'm sure I could advance toward a BSN, MSN or whatever (I already have one Master's degree).
I'm 37 and it's killing me that I' haven't done this yet. What are the options of someone with a family????
THANK YOU!!!!

First, look at your assets. You've got plenty. Then take a look at the ages of your children. They grow up fast and you might not want to spend a lot of time on a second degree right now. Believe it or not, you've got plenty of time to get a nursing degree, and it might be easier if you wait. However, if nursing is something that you really want to do, I would advise you to find a program that is part classroom and part on line. Usually these colleges have all your nursing classes during one day a week, however some of the courses that you will need to take can be very time intensive. If you really want this bad enough, you will take the time to do it right, not just fast. good luck, Kate:balloons:

I'm doing a 2 year Associate's program with clinical experience. If you want to be good at what you do, you need a good clinical rotation experience. But I don't know about your education background. A 2 year is quick, but packed with quality. You need that classroom attention so you can learn and interact. It's not the same as what you're doing now...its a new profession. A BSN you can do at an accredited online site while you work as a nurse-that way you're exempt from clinicals and the hospital pays for your education-very part-time. Hope this helps...its one suggestion.
