Help Me, Pleaseee :)

Hi! i have a question, i am goin gto the university of central florida this fall with a pre-nursing major to get my BSN in nursing. I want to work in labor/delivery, but dont mistake me, i dont want to be a midwife, but how long does it takeonce you get your BSN to get into that program and working in the hospitals working in L&D? is there a program i have to go thru after the i get my BSN?? thanks so much, i just want to know what my path is for me and what i should plan for, im so excited!

Depends on the hospital you apply to. Some hospitals will take new grads into L&D without any experience. I recommend, much to the anger of OB nurses, that you get at least a year of experience working med/surg before you go to L&D. Today's moms are not as healthy as they once were. There are many more women getting pregnant who have non-pregnancy related conditions. By haviong a good grasp of what is normal and abnormal, and the treatments needed for various health problems, you will find it much easier to take care of these patients with health problems. You will also be able to provide a higher level of care. That is the most important thing.

i am a 1991 ucf grad and went straight to l&d at orhs, but don't know what their current policy is.
