while still in school, i've been wanting to work in pediatrics unit. unfortunately, when i applied for the position, i was told by the recruiter that they only hire experienced nurses in peds... i ended up working in adult med-surg. now that i am a month close to my one year, i decided to request for a transfer. my manager didn't like the idea and "bad-mouthed" me to the other manager. i knew it because the peds manager decided to call my manager while i was in her office for an interview -- i liked her idea though, since i was able to defend myself afterwards. also, she sensed that my manager likes me and does not want me to leave her unit. before i left her office, she advised me to talk to my manager in person, then call her ASAP so they can discuss the schedules.
i am hoping and praying that my manager will let me go in peace... she has history of backfiring; there was also a nurse in my unit who failed to get a transfer because she was not recommended (and she's a very good nurse)... sigh... if she succeeds, then i may have to look for another hospital.

OH MY GOD, that makes me soooo angry!!! Obviously, you do not work in a hospital with a Union? A manager would never have the balls to do that if she had the Union to deal with. I am soooooo sorry that is happening to you. I guess the best thing you can do is to keep doing what it sounds like you have been doing all along. Just keep being politically correct. (If you know what I mean.) What a horrible, back-handed way to try to keep nurses working for her. JJEEEEEZZZ!!
I would document everything and perhaps if it comes to it, you could go above her head and see if something could be done. I mean if she is trying to fire you.
:o:o hang in there.
