Help fast!

I have a very very hard decision to make, and it doesn't help that I have to make it this week! I was accepted into one of the local nursing programs, but it wasn't my first choice.....do I enroll, or let it go???

Program 1) I'm accepted for fall start. It's the cheapest of the two. BUT, the have awful class/clinical hours that will cause a lot of reworking including many 3rd shift rotations and up to 30 miles away. 4 short days per week - but literally, they tell you that you have to be available for clinical assignments 24/7 and changes can and do happen every semester.

Program 2) Perfect schedule- 2 nights per week and clinical every other weekend (2- 12 hour shifts). I would LOVE this schedule, it would be PERFECT. Costs a tiny bit more $ than the other program, $30 per credit. Only takes applications 1/year, so I can't apply until August...long after I have to decide about program 1. Clinicals will be at a set time and location for whole program. I have also been working at this college for 17 years, so I feel very "at home" here.

So, I'm in for program 1, but my first choice is program 2. Any suggestions???

well what are your chances of being admitted into program 2? are they very selective?

I think I have a good chance. They have an AM program and a PM program. The AM program admits 2x/yr while the PM only once- so in any given year there might be some variation. Grade-wise I'm strong. I have a BA with a 3.87 gpa, I have a 4.0 in all the sciences (prereqs). They don't do an admission test.

After dinner tonight my husband and I decided for me to accept a slot in program 1 and send the deposit. It's only $50, and I'm willing to eat that cost if I decide to hold out for program 2. Program 1 awarded acceptance to 38 people, and has a list of about 120 applicants- so I feel no guilt about sending in the deposit. If I end up pulling out, there are almost 100 people behind me eager to jump in my spot.

I would advise you to do what you did to hold your spot. You can leave the first program to take the second program if they accept you. It is perfectly understandable why you would make that transfer. But I would not breathe a word of your plans at school 1. Good luck. Hope things work out to your advantage.
