What should I put on my essays to nursing school, my reason for wanting to become a nurse?
A little background. When I was 18 I flunked out of my university because I developed Crohn's disease lost 30 pounds, and developed depression as a result.
I retook the classes I failed at community college, but I was convinced my situation was unrecoverable. So I dropped out with a 2.78.
When I came back I managed to get it up to 3.25, and I am shooting to continue to improve, I have a 3.5 in the prerequisites. It would be higher if I hadn't been hospitalized for two weeks last semester.
When I first came back I was totally ignorant of the competiveness, and difficulty of what I was attempting. When I discovered I freaked out in fear my goals where unattainable.
Then something profound happened, I caught pneumonia, and developed a 11cm lung abscess. It was a np that caught it effectively saving my life.
The whole medical staff was wonderful, despite me continually threatening to sign AMA so I could take my finals, I wasn't going to let my education slip away again.
They promised to let me out in time to take my finals, and they kept their promise. They admitted me as a charity case so if I developed sepsis I could have emergency surgery without a hitch, they where all far to professional, and kind. I love them all.
I took my finals, and I salvaged an A, and two Bs. The experience solidified my desire to be a nurse no matter the personal sacrifice.
This general story is what I was thinking of putting on there, is there any thing I should include, exclude, or exchange?
