I'm new here and need help.
I currently have a BS in animal Sciences and completed nursing pre-reqs before I graduated in 2006 since I knew that I was interested in nursing. My long term goal is to get a MSN and specialize in neonatology. My son was a micopreemie and that experience is what got me interested in nursing. I have worked in medical research since graduation and have been a senior research technician and performing physiology research and animal surgeries.
I would love to just do a second degree BSN, but really can't financially commit to such a dedicated program at this time, I need to be able to work while I go to school. My job leaves me plenty of time to study while I work, especially when running experiments. Also my cumulative GPA is 2.87 because of some mistakes made in my early college years, my last few semesters were decent with an average 3-3.5 GPA, which makes it hard for me to get into a second degree BSN program as well.
I can earn an ADN at the local community college and probably do it quickly since I have taken all of the general education classes already. Plus my current job pays for up to 8 credits a semester at this school.
So could I get my ADN and with my BS still go into a MSN program eventually without getting the BSN? I would like to get the ADN, work in the field for some time to get experience and then work on my MSN while working as a nurse. I have medical experience because of my job and educational background already. I do surgeries on rats now, so I am experienced with monitoring, giving shots, canulating blood vessels, etc....
I have also worked as a pharmacy technician, so I am familiar with drugs and dosing calculations.
I love working in research but the pay and ability to relocate are limited, plus I feel really motivated to work in the nursing field.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts or advice on this.
