I recently moved to Tampa to gain custody of my niece and nephew. I left a job as a Mom and Baby Rn in another town after only working there 6 months. This was my only experience as an RN. I had just graduated in 12/2010. I thought I'd have no problem getting a job in Tampa because there are so many hospitals here. But after 2 months I still don't have a job. Everywhere I apply wants at least one year experience and I only have 6 months experience. I don't know what to do! I've been living off my financial aid and a little bit of money I had saved. Now I'm out of money and still have no job. I don't understand, I see school advertisments everywhere saying be a nurse. But how is a new nurse suppose to get a job in Tampa if all they will hire is experienced nurses!!!!
Does anyone know of any places that will hire new nurses??

I recall graduating in 89 and there were not enough nurses to go around. Nurses were hired during initial interviews. Why are there so many nurses competing for jobs? Did the RN testing get easier, requirments for licensure less strigent? I see advertisement for RN jobs requiring BSN, MSN and even nurse practioner license to even qualify for an interview. Has the scope of nursing practice changed that much? Are schools producing too many graduates? What do you think?
More graduates and tighter staffing to the point of being unsafe.
A recent ad for an advanced practice nurse for the State of Wisconsin in one of the prisons ... ~ $35k/yr. Ha!
