Help! ADN???

Published

I'm starting school again after having 2 kids and being out of school for about 2 years. I decided to go with nursing at my local community college. My question is will a ADN degree be ok? I've read that people look down on that degree and might be harder to find a job. But my thoughts an Rn is an Rn right or am I wrong. I need advice and making sure that ADN is fine. Thank you :)

It depends on where you live. Most employers these days want a nurse with a bachelors degree. I don't think anybody looks down on ADN just people know you'd need to get your BSN sooner after.

Some students choose ADN because of the cost and time and work while going back for BSN. Just look at job postings in your area. Thats all I know. Hopefully more people will comment.

Good luck:up:

Nobody looks down on an ASN. It is what the employers in your area want. You need to research your job market. Research if there are even job openings in your area and what degree they hire.

In my area, the smaller hospitals don't differentiate. The larger hospitals that want BSNs hire ADN nurses but make part of their contract include that the nurse will obtain a BSN in X amount of years. The best part is that they usually offer tuition reimbursement for this!
