Having a really rough time.. paperwork, autonomy...

So I've been at Home Health for a month now. I love it, but I'm having a very, very rough time. This morning I was handed yet another huge stack of "corrections" and absolutely snapped. The corrections, plus the supply clerk being a word-I-can't-say-here, plus the Case Manager admonishing me for not having my paperwork done when I arrive in the mornings, even though hardly anyone else ever has theirs done either... I "snapped". Now, what my "snapped" episode entailed, I won't say... but I do still have a job. =)

So... like I said, all in all I do really like home health... but does the paperwork REALLY get easier??? It just doesn't seem like it will. And what about those of you who use a computer... does that make things easier??

Plus the autonomy... well, they say that we have autonomy in this job, but still need an order for every little thing... AND, I'm expected to get those orders while still trying to drive around and see numerous patients.

It's rough!!!

Sounds like you are really

having a rough time!! It does take time to get the hang of filling out the oasis forms. There are a lot of questions and the medicare reviewers are extremely picky. They won't pay if paperwork is out of line. That being said, it sounds like the office staff are being a little rough on you. Can you ask for additional training time for documentation? You can also go look on the net for documentation assistance. There are sites that will explain the questions and expected answers. check this site out www.fazzi.com/tl_files/documents/research-and-resources/OASIS-C_Best_Practice_Manual.pdf Good luck!!!!

Yes, I'm back at HHC after an absence of 20+ years. I get a stack of returned paperwork in my in-box most mornings that looks like, with all the post-it-notes, a Tibetan prayer flag. Then, to add to the mix, computer documentation with software glitches galore and no formal training. I've got about 3 weeks to get "up to speed" where I have to see a minimum of 5 Pt.'s per day. This I can do, but with all the computer "paperwork" and the corrections I must make each night, enough time for sleep is becoming a concern. Oh, yeah. I seem to remember something about a personal life that I no longer have....
