Harrison College

U.S.A. Indiana

I am a pre-nursing student considering Harrison College. Are there any Harrison graduates who can share their experience with Harrison College and if it's difficult finding a job in a hospital setting?

I would not go to Harrison. I went there when it was Indiana Business College. It is very expensive and the classes were a joke. I'm not even sure if their nursing program is accredited or not. Look into Ivy Tech. That is where I am going and love it. Also their nursing program is very well known and people get hired when they graduate from there. Harrison College is a for profit school.

I know someone who graduated from Harrison and she stated it was a wonderful program. Also their pass rates have been 100% for a couple of years now. The other important thing is they are nationally accredited (ACEN-formally NLNAC). Hope this helps!!

I know a few graduates from Harrison College, and they say good things about their nursing program. They are accredited by ACEN (former NLNAC) and their NCLEX pass rate has been 97%, 100% and 100% for the last 3 years. The graduates I know work at St. Vincent, Community Hospital North, IU Health and Wishard.

Thank you for your comments. I know a few people who have attended Harrison and have had good success. I'm one of them, attended when it was IBC. Completed their Medical Coding program and am a certified medical coder working as an office manager for a medical practice. I have taken all my pre-reqs at Ivy Tech but feel I am just another student trying to make it in to their nursing program. I have a couple B's and I refuse to retake classes just to get A's because I am being told by administration that's what you need to be considered. I wanted to see others feedback before moving forward.

You do not have to have A's in all the prereqs. That is a common misconception that goes floating. Some of the advisors will even say it. Not the nursing advisors but the regular ones. If you get into the message boards unders nursing you can see what some of the scores are that get in to each program. I have seen in the 140's get into the LPN and high 150's getting into the RN depending on which Campus. So either everyone sucks at the Teas, which I doubt, or people are not getting all A's. That's just a common misconception.

I am currently in Harrison's medical assisting program at the Fort Wayne, IN campus. Last week I spoke with someone who when I told her I was attending Harrison, immediately said I should call around to hospitals to see if there hire Harrison graduates. My heart sunk. Harrison is an expensive school and I do not want to continue only to find out I am not able to gain employment. I was considering switching to the ASN program. I have called the HR departments of the two major hospitals and waiting for a response. I am wondering if the info the person I spoke with was obtained a few years back or not? Any info about whether Fort Wayne area hospitals/medical practices or not they hire Harrison grads? Any information is greatly appreciated. :-)

If Harrison is ACEN accredited you should be fine.

Isn't ACEN nursing accreditation? I don't think it affects MAs, but I don't know. I live in Indy, and most MAs are employed in clinics and MD office for low wages. Go for the nursing degree!
