2.7 GPA

Published

Do schools only look at your GPA? I graduated from Lehman with a 2.7 gpa with a BA in Psychology and I want to get into a ABSN program. I still have a lot of sciences and other prereqs I need to take and I am hoping to Ace them all. So far I've taken AP1 & 2 and received Bs, but other than that I don't have any nursing experiences. I am planning to apply to most NY ABSN programs (mainly Westchester County, NYC and LI) to raise up my chances. Any advice is helpful and much appreciated.

Every school has different admission criteria, and most schools have quite a bit of information online. I'd start with an online search and go from there.

Every school has its own admission criteria. ABSN programs do look at GPA of prior degrees and usually have a minimum GPA they want - either for whole degree or for last 60 credits. Do be aware that ABSN programs are competitive and even if one says it accepts students with a 2.5+ most students will have either a substantially higher GPA and/or significant work/life experience to counteract a lower GPA.

If you struggled in your BA program you may want to go through a traditional BSN program as a post-bacc (usually 2 years) or an ADN program simply for the sake of your ability to manage your study habits and stress load, and if you do go for ABSN have a clear plan in place for how you will change your study habits or life circumstances that impacted your ability to do well in your BA program.
