Today I got the LPN program information from the technical school near me. They are accredited. According to the brochure, it will cost a little over $2000 for the entire program ($1050/per semester not including books, uniforms, supplies, pre-test fees) ...which sounds pretty good to me. I do have to take LPN official National League of Nursing Entrance Exam (NLN) (which consists mainly of reading, math & natural science). It says I have to score at least in the 60 percentile. Is this the same as the NET test that I've seen people here talking about?
I'm so excited to have this information, yet so bummed, because I'm not going to be able to go for about 3 yrs, but this gives me a look at what to expect. They even sent the curriculum, and what classes will be given in each semester. I must admit, I'm kind of intimidated! The LPN program is only offered full-time.
Here's the first sememster:
-Basic Nursing Skills
-Human Growth & Development
-Anatomy & Physiology
-Nutrition & Diet Therapy
-Personal Vocational Relationships (PVR)
-Medical-Surgical Nursing
-Pharmacology
Second semester:
-Maternal/Newborn Nursing
-Pharmacology
-Medical-Surg Nursing
-Anatomy & Physiology
-Mental Health
-Pediatrics
-Geriatrics
-PVR II Personal Vocational Relationships
The classes run from 8am-3:45pm. And begin in July. By the time I'm ready to start school (in 3+ yrs) my oldest will be almost 13, and my other two, will be 10 & 5. Hopefully the school tuition fees won't be too much higher in 3.5 years from what they are now. LOL.
One thing I'm surprised isn't on there is CPR. I would have thought that would be definitely be a class that needs to be taught to every nurse. I will have to ask them about that.
Even though I'm not going to start anytime soon, I'm going to call them and ask if I can attend the LPN orientation, just to see what is offered. If not, then I'm going to set up a meeting with someone there to talk about my future.
I'm so excited! :)
