Good Enough? IUPUI

Published

Like the majority of pre-nursing students, I am extremely apprehensive about getting into nursing school. I will be applying to IUPUI (Indiana University, Purdue University in Indianapolis) in about 10 days for spring semester clinicals. I know I have some time before I find out but I have heard the school is very competitive and I am unsure as to whether I will be accepted. Any Ideas, anyone from this University?

Cumulative G.P.A of 3.6

I would potentially have a 3.8, but a class I decided to take to "Brush up" on my math skills, turned out to be a disaster. I got a D+! However, this grade is not part of the nursing curriculum but plays into my cumulative G.P.A.

I have had A's, A-, and one B+ in Anatomy in my core nursing classes so far.

I have done numerous volunteer work, and shadowed several times.

This summer I have been currently working at a hospital as a Student Nurse Extern.., I rotate to all units, all shifts. It is very demanding but I have learned so much. I function under the supervision of a nurse who teaches me according to my level in the three year program (my third year I function as a nurse).

At IUPUI, a interview is required for acceptance, (it is 30% of their decision!) During my interview I intend to focus on my experience working as a student nurse extern because unlike many students, from my experience, I truly know what the occupation entails.

Any comments are appreciated. I would love to hear from someone who attends IUPUI nursing school. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with that school's acceptance requirements, but I wanted to wish you the best of luck! It sounds like you have a lot to offer! :D I know here we can't work as an extern until around 3rd semester. Must be a great opportunity you've found!

Hey,

I just saw your post. I am currently in my first semester at IUPUI. You grades look good and it is great that you are already in the healthcare field. Make sure to stress/highlight this during your interview. The interview for the school is not too bad. The great thing that I want to share is that this year they are accepting 10 additional students each semster. Therefore, for the Spring there will be 110 students instead of 100. My claas is the first class of 110. IUPUI is a great school and I have enjoyed myself so far.
