when is it gonna get better?....

hi evryone! im a new LPN for like 2 months now,,,i work two jobs both part time, one is perdiem ,,why is it everytime i go to work i feel nervous , my hands started to sweat and i just cant stay still,,,right now i dont even know if nursing is really for me,,,i dont know im confused...

Hmm. Sounds like could be the amount that you work, the fact you're new, or anxiety. Those are the 3 things that pop into my head. Too much work can stress a person out, being new stresses most people out (count me as one of those people), and sometimes people just have plain 'ol anxiety. If it happens to be anxiety, well anxiety is treatable, and most folks get on some medication (usually SSRI's these days), and talk with someone and after about 4 weeks or so (sometimes sooner) things start to get better.

All new people wonder if nursing is really for them though. I think that nursing theorists actually have done studies on it, and one of three things happens with new grads:

1) New grads figure out that the real world is way different than nursing school, drop the extra things that nursing school made them learn and become jaded and burnedout.

2) Some new grads think that the workplace should be exactly like nursing school and consistently job hop, or quit altogether trying to find a place that is like nursing school where they won't have to "cut corners".

or

3) New grads adjust to where they have to cut some corners, and where they can use some of the "extra things" that nursing school teaches and they mix the 2 and end up being happy in their job.

Sorry to hear that things are stressful! It takes awhile to feel comfortable no matter what, but eventually you'll get there.

Yep, nursing seems like a good career in theory (help people, good salary, ect).......

then you're a new grad and reality sinks in w/ Hospital politics, nurses w/ bad attitudes, long hours, tons of stress, bad orientations.......

I think we all have to find our own niche where the negatives don't effect our own health and sanity tooooo much. A job w/ a bit of balance to it would be nice.
