Going back for BSN

Published

I have spent a lot of time researching ABSN and slower paced 2nd degree BSN programs. But I want to make sure I understand all options.

My question is about nursing schools that don't explicitly detail nursing programs for students already possessing a bachelors degree. Do those schools typically allow you to transfer credits (that you used to get your first bachelors degree) into their nursing program as a typical transfer student?

I have been looking into these programs as well, and think I have it figured out. You first need to choose a school based on tuition, location, recommendation, schedule, etc. The programs I have looked into will accept all your basic courses, but you will likely still need specific science pre-reqs unless your other degree was a science one. Most programs I have looked into require me to take 5-8 science courses, but my other degree is in Business, so not much science there! You can apply to the school of your choice, but cannot begin until you get a B or better (all programs I have looked into require this) in all your science pre-req courses. ABSN/2nd Degree programs typically require you to take all nursing courses at that college, and that is about 30-40 +/- credits depending on the school. Normally takes about 3 semesters or so to finish full time.

Hope that helps!
