GN position or RN?

Published

Hi!

Is it better to try to get into a GN program or get my RN license first and then look for a job? In current job market situation it seems that finding any entry-level position is a great luck. But because of my personal situation I am not applying for GN programs as many of our students (I am pregnant). I plan to get my RN license and then look for a job. Will it lower my chances to find a position? Do hospitals hire new nurses just through GN programs or they hire new licensed RN as well?

There is no one right answer to your question. It all depends on your local hospitals and how they like to hire new grads. Some hospitals hire new grads all year round. Others only hire them at certain times of the year and group them together into special programs. What is true at one hospital will not be true at another.

You'll just have to talk with the hospital recruiters for the employers that interest you most. I would recommend talking with the ASAP s that you will have the information you need to make decisions about your life.
