Glucose Levels

Hi, I was wondering what glucose level would be considered "critical" for a 4 day old, and what would be normal. I have seen conflicting information. Thanks.

Our NICU policy is 40-180 for reporting (i.e. 180).

Thanks, that is about the range I keep seeing, but so many people in my ED disagree with me that I'm starting to think I'm completely wrong, crazy and in denial.

What range do you use in the ED? Do you know what range is used in the NICU at your hospital?

Assuming this is a fullterm kid (or near-term, even), anything under 40 in the first 24 hours, we report. After 24 hrs of life, we report anything under 50.

We use 40-180 as our range for a normal glucose level. Just keep in mind that BG levels can go from fine to critical in a matter of minutes in a baby.
