Don't forget to send something (of a professional nature) that can be included in her personnel file. A personal thank-you note is great ... but it might not be something that helps her at performance evaluation time. You want her boss to know that she did a great job, too. She has helped you professionally. Don't forget to return the favor by thanking her in a way that will help her professionally, too.
I recommend something small and personal that you know she would use. For example, if she is a coffee drinker, get her some gourmet coffee or a gift certificate at the goumet coffee shop near work. If you know she enjoys a bottle of wine, get her a bottle of wine ... Do you know a restaurant she likes? etc.
If you don't know what she enjoys, gift certificates are not as bad as they sound. You could get her a gift certificate at a local shopping mall where she would have a wide range of choices ... or at Amazon.com, where she could choose from a wide variety of products. In today's economy, a lot of people appreciate a gift of something they will actually use rather than "just another knick-knack" to sit on a shelf.
Our school wiped out the gifts, and I am glad. I hated that my students spent what little money they had on gifts for me. What I do love, however, is the cards with handwritten notes from them. They all hang on my office wall. That, and the picture I always take with them at the end. I cherish those as well.

Hello,
Just completed all coursework for MSN-Education focus. Wondering what kind of gift or present I could provide to my education preceptor.
A Thank You card has been purchased but wondering if anything else???
Thanks,
