Getting Started In The San Antonio Area

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO TAKE PREREQ'S FOR NURSING? SO MANY PLACES HERE INCLUDING SOME HOSPITALS. BUT I HAVE TO STAY WORKING FULL TIME AND TAKE CLASSES... HELP?

I think San Antonio College (or the ACCD schools affiliated with it, i.e., St. Philip's, Northwest Vista, Palo Alta) are the best place to take nursing prerequisites. They offer evening and online classes and they're the cheapest in town.

THANKS.... BEEN LOOKING AT NORTHWEST VISTA. WHICH IS A PART OF ACCD. THANKS AGAIN:D

Wanting nursing-I went to San Antonio College for prereqs and graduated from the nursing program there as well. Schedules were flexible, cost was reasonable, instructors excellent. An excellent educational experience for me. Have since relocated a couple of times!

Good luck in your endeavors.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

:)

I am currently taking prereqs at St. Philips, I have taken some at San ANtonio College, but the campus is so huge I get lost in all the hustle and bustle, St Philips is smaller and more personal. One plus for San Antonio college is they have alot more on-line courses and telecourses to offer than St Philips.

You said you checked into Northwest Vista, I didn't think they had a nursing program at that campus?

The Baptist Health care system has a nursing program, but is alot more expensive than the community colleges, If ypur looking the LVN route, there is Health institute of San ANtonio, which is also alot pricier too.

Hope this helps you out!

I took my prereqs at San Antonio College.

The following were very helpful instructors:

A&P I - Mr. Torres

A&P II- I heard Davenport is good. I had another instructor who I wouldn't recommend.

Microbiology - Dr. Staggs (learned a lot but she's tough). I heard Mr. Rodriguez is easier.

Chemistry - Took it online but I wouln't recommend it.

Intro. to Nutrition-Telecourse with Prof. Brennan.

Developmental Psych - On line course with Prof. Crane.

Good luck and I help this helps.

Hey CK2 if you've been accepted to the Baptist nursing program then congrats. It's not an easy program to get into. I graduated from the RN program and I can say that in SA you wont find a better program. Intensive to say the least! Once you've finished the program you will agree with me. I'm sure that the other schools in the area are fine. Our class motto for clinicals was "yes, I've done that before as opposed to yes, I've read about it before". Inside joke for Class of 97. Enjoy!

Marian:

Congrats to you as well for finishing from what I heard not everyone makes it.

So far I've been doing a lot of reading. At the end of January we start clinicals at a nursing home.

The instructors seem as if they really want us to be successful so that has kept me motivated.

Thanks for the heads up.

Your correct....they DO want you to reach the goals that you have set for yourself. That's what they are about. Our whole class passed the boards with one exception-Mike. But he was always sleeping in class anyway. We only had one person quit the program and that was because she had a baby. I had knee surgery during that time and Michele and Dena had babies. Michele stayed with the program. They will do anything they can to help you out. Spiritually, financially, emotionally, academically. I dont' think there are words to describe their devotion to their students. I loved them all. Who are your instructors? I may have had them and can give you some insight. Your gonna love the clinicals. Scary at first but you will love them in the end. Dive in and enjoy.
