Hey everyone! I'm new to this site and new to pursuing a psychiatric nursing career. I have spent hours and hours looking for a good nursing school in Illinois and deciding whether I should just go straight to Chamberlain and get right into the 3 year BSN program, or do prerequisites at a community college and then transfer to save money and if so what pre-reqs would I take? I am SO confused and lost as to where to start and its giving me a headache:banghead:...any and all advice as to what you all did to get started with your nursing education/career would be very much appreciated! Thank you!!! :)

After graduating high school I had no idea what I wanted to do. So, I got a job and began taking classes at the local community college. The basic stuff which would be prerequisites for any degree.
I especially enjoyed Psych and Sociology, so I took as many that would be counted. One thing led to another, I took a First Aid class, got certified in CPR at the local Fire Department, went through an EMT program, LPN program, then got my RN.
Begin any endeavor, and the job is half done. Any elephant needs to be eaten one bite at a time. The fates led those who will. Those who won't, the fates drag.
The very best to you, Iseas26!
Oh-BTW: Put some key words like "getting started in psych nursing" into the search engine at the bottom of the Forum Page and I'm sure it will bring up past threads where you can get a whole lot of more information!

I went straight into a BSN program from high school. Costs were not what they are today. If I were to start all over I would take prerequisites at a community college then apply for a BSN program. You just have to make sure your classes are transferable.
