I'll be graduating in December and I just got hired as a nurse extern for a med-surg pulmonary unit. Respiratory is an area that I am not very familiar/comforable with so I was wondering what I can do to prepare as much as possible. Besides reviewing all my textbook information about resp, ABGs, lung sounds, etc. is there anything else I can do, any extra education I can get to be the best prepared?
Thanks.

if you are allowed to do procedures Id also be sure to review suctioning techniques for various respiratory apparatuses so you can be ready for action if a situation arrives
you sound like you are on the right track. be sure to treat the whole thing like an interview and follow up afterwards. verbalize how much you want to work there (if you do), and give your resume to the manager. thats how I got my job :)
good luck
