getting into IV nursing

Hi...I am an RN who would like to get back into nursing, particularly infusion nursing. I have always enjoyed working with IV's although I havent for a few years. What makes my situation unique is that I am also a Remicade recipient. That is what has made me want to get into infusion nursing. It seems that the infusion clinics I have called and sent resumes to don't have openings right now. Any suggestions as to making myself more marketable. My RA is under control with the Remicade. I haven't been totally out of nursing...I have been giving flu shots and doing health screenings out in the community but that doesn't keep you in touch with real nursing... been out of nursing mostly due to staying at home with the kids but the RA didnt help either. RA is much better now and I am ready to take the plunge.

Any advice from infusion nurses or any nurses with advice would be helpful.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site & this is my first post.

I am an infusion nurse in Ohio and I work for an infusion pharmacy. There is a variety of IV skills needed.......everything from starting peripherals,central line care,PICC line care,etc. We do all sorts of infusions....Remicade, Chemotherapy,IVIG,Solumedrol,etc.

We work in patients homes and also do some Remicade infusion suites for Dr's. I personally do not care for working in the infusion suite as it can be kind of crazy sometimes,lol. You may have 4 people infusing....VS every 15 min for the first hour & if you have someone who pulls out their iv or some type of complication it can just get crazy,lol. I prefer infusions in the pts home. A much more relaxed atmosphere. Please keep in mind, that as an infusion nurse there is no other nurse to call on if you are having a difficult time starting an iv........there is no " 2 stick" rule. When I worked the infusion suite for a Dr, I found out there was no nurse there who could start iv's,lol. Anyway, I'm babbling........you might try looking to see if there are any infusion pharmacies in your area. If I can answer any questions you have,please let me know.

Nursetallica do you mind me asking where in Ohio you are an infusion nurse. I am in the Detroit area and Toledo would not be too far for me to travel.
