Hey all, i'm currently 18 and in my LPN year. I plan on going ahead and getting my rn and BSN before trying to enter the Army or Marine nursing corps but i'm not sure they would let me in. I'd like to try and get a waver but i've had lower postirior fusion. So I have a bar in my lower back. It sounds -very- bad on paper but i'm in great shape, work out nearly every day and so on.
I'd like to be an anesthetist in the military but with such a history do you think it's possible to even go for a waver? If you need more information, please ask. Thanks in advance!
P.S. Does the Airforce have a nursing branch? I'm open for any that would take be besides the Navy.

Marines don't have a Nurse Corp. They are a Dept of the Navy.
Yes, the Air Force has a Nurse Corp.
Not sure about your back. Best advice is to see a medical recruiter and see if you can get a waiver. Sometimes they will give waivers for medical conditions but each situation is unique.
Can't hurt to try.
Good luck.

Why don't you want to do the Navy? Just curious! I'm in the process of applying for the nurse candidate program for the Navy, so any info would help me out!
Oh, please dont let me change your mind on that. I'm just afraid that i'd be stuck on a ship and well.. I'm not the sea-heartiest of guys. I'm sure i'd adapt but i'd kind of like to stay on the ground
By the way, does anyone know how to find a medical recruiter? Should I just check in the phonebook or is there a site to find them in your area? Thanks alot.

Locate US Army Health Care Recruiter
I was an active duty enlisted Marine from 1980-1988 as an avionics technician on F-4 Phantoms. Presently, active duty officer in the Army Nurse Corps.
The United States Marine Corps is not a Department of the Navy. Yes, the USMC falls under the Dept. of the Navy. However, the Marine Corps is a seperate entity with a seperate war time mission than the Navy. It is true a lot of joint operations exist with the Navy & Marines. Plus, the Marine Corps is provided health care via the Navy Medical Department. USMC ground troops will almost always be accompanied by a Navy Corpsman, which is equivalent to an Army Medic in the AMEDD. All Navy & Marine Bases have Navy medical facilities.
Here is a link to the US Army Nurse Corps website that can provide info to closest AHC Recruiter Locate

ok....the marines are a department of the navy! yes is has separate war time mission but still department of the navy!
next....navy nurses don't just go on ship....i don't know how many times i have to say that or why people think we just go on ship. the navy has a wide variety of hospitals!
i was in the ncp, and it worked out very well for me. it helped me out a great deal while i was in school.
i would love to answer any other questions for you about navy nursing and the ncp program.
