how to get into nursing school ?

Published

I was wondering if anyone has gone thru the same experience and shed some light on my dilemma. My first college i had attended i did not get the best grades due to some problems (family problems, aunt passed away, dad lost his job with in months of each other) i decided to take a semester off and transfer to my local community collage and y pa now at my community collage is a 3.65. Will my old transcript completely ruin my dreams of becoming a nurse or is there anyway i can still get into a nursing school? please help this has been stressing me out horribly!

There is always a way if you truly want it. One path that is available is for you to become and LPN then apply to an LPN to Rn program; those programs usually have lower GPA requirements. After that you can do a Rn to BSN program if you like. The only downfall is that it will take you longer than if you were to get accepted right into a BSN program. The other path you can take is to go to a private school, the issue there is the price of the education. However if you do the math, the private school way will get you done sooner, thus making money quicker, and if you factor that in it might be beneficial for you.

Whichever path you choose is up to you, just keep in mind that there are always options. Good Luck...

I had a HORRIBLE GPA from my past (about 11 years before I started taking prereqs for nursing....and it was BAD...like embarrassingly bad)....I came back...did very well in my prereqs and was able to bring my GPA up enough to get accepted to the ADN program at my school.....I plan to get my associates then do a RN-BSN bridge program afterwards.

sooo yes it is possible....you will have to work hard....and maybe take a less traditional route than a BSN program. But if you really want to do it...it definitely can be done

Thank you so much for the advice I had a tough day today in my A&p class, during my practical I thought I had an extra 30 min to finish ( I understood my profeaaor wrong) and it really took a toll out I had about 10 Mon to finish 30 ques which I tries but I think I did bad..I'm at a77.6 average in her class and broke down in my car because I was so worries I threw my chances of getting into a program with a bad a&p grade over a Sillu mistake..but you are right I might have to take a less traditional way because to be honest looking at my situation I don't even have a second career choice I'm 25 and nursing is all I can see myself doing

My first 2 years in college, when I didn't take anything serious, got me a GPA of 0.7. I took 10 years off to figure out life and now I have direction and a goal, which is nursing. My first year back in college, I retook all of my classes and fixed that GPA to a 4.0. Trust me, if you're serious, you can do it.

Seriously, thank you so much for this. You gave me hope.
