GEP Programs-anyone enrolled?

Published

Hi! I'll be getting my B.S. in Human Development in spring '09, and a lot of colleges that I have seen are offering GEP (Graduate Entry Programs) for advanced practice nursing. A few of these colleges, like University of IL-Chicago, offer the basic nursing program in 13 months, and then getting certified as a NP in a speciality of your choice (or what's available) in 1.5 yrs.

Is anyone enrolled in one of these programs, and if so, could you just give me your feedback on how you like the program? Thanks so much! :specs:

I know there is a thread over on the graduate student nurse forum under students which has people who applied to the GEP program.

As someone who also has a degree, I am considering applying here as well. There are a few other such programs in the area if you live in Chicago. One is at Rush, but that only garners you a general Master's, you would still need to pursue a speciality Master's. There is also an accelerated BSN program at Loyola which is one year (May to May).

In talking with the admission people at UIC, they recommended that I (even though I have a BS already) apply to BOTH the traditional NS program as well as the GEP.

Good luck with your application!!
