game plan after pre reqs are completed

Published

So I finally finished all my pre reqs. Im super excited cause initially 4 years ago I started but never finished. This last year i really buckled down and completed all of them. Just a little background on me: I graduated with a bachelors in business management in 2011, I moved back in with my family to seriously pursue school without the stresses, and cut back back working hours to pretty much 15 hours a week. My applying process starts this month for absn, generic programs, and even asn programs (i don't care who takes me, i just want in) for jan 2017. My question is how did you guys pass the time without losing your marbles and how did you prepare for nursing school?

Hey! Congrats on finishing up your pre-reqs. I start nursing school in a couple of weeks and my journey sounds a bit like yours. I also have a bachelor's degree in another field (Psychology) and know how anxious it can be waiting to apply to programs, etc.

To get a jump start, I made sure I had my immunization records because these could be difficult to get. Also, try and save up some money for the immunizations in case you need any because these can be a bit expensive. If you can, apply for scholarships. I applied for several before the start of my program and landed some pretty decent ones! Apply early and schedule to take any entrance exams early as well so you can get those out of the way and re-take any if you need to.

Lastly, I stalked this website. I got information on helpful study aides and strategies from AllNurses. In fact, I got so much great information that I've already formulated an entire study process for my Fundamentals class. I purchased several study aides and books that will help me in the program and I brushed up on my dosage calculations. My program requires that we pass it before even beginning the semester or we can't proceed. Good luck!

@Athom34 thank you so much for the response....I will definitely follow the steps you took because I'm really looking to be a step ahead of the game like yourself. This is great information! Congrats on getting into your nursing program

I would suggest going to your school library and borrowing the fundamental book or which ever nursing course book you'll be taking during your first semester of nursing school and and on top of your reading. After reading each chapter, do study questions based on that chapter. Do that throughout the entire book and I guarantee you, you'll be an excellent student. Good luck.

@blessings81 thanks so much...Im going to head to the library Monday.
