how does FTE work?

If you work 0.8 which is 32 hrs a week and you pick up an extra shift or you stay a 1/2 hour late on a shift can you do that? Do you get paid regular time or overtime?

Where I work, OT is paid only if you work more than 40 hours in a workweek. What constitutes the start and end of a workweek varies by employer, so check that out.

Also, if you are less than 1.0 FTE, you are more likely to get the shifts you sign up for than someone who is going OT to pick up the shift. Just be careful with that, though. Some nurses will get snippy if you sign up for non-OT shifts AFTER they've signed up for that particular shift which makes them OT. Try to sign up first to avoid that situation. :)
