Ft. Polk

Just received assignment orders for the 115th CSH at Ft. Polk, LA. Does anyone have experiance

as an 8A with the unit or just general life/being an RN at Ft. Polk? I'm from a military family and well

aware of the needs of the govt coming first, but... being an adrenaline junkie (and hating snakes/many spiders), I'm not hearing too many folks being thrilled with this area. Needing some inspiration please!!!

The first thing that went through my head when I read the title of this thread was "Ft Polk........is an armpit".

I was stationed there for a a bit back in 2004 and have done rotations through JRTC; albeit not as a nurse. Its mostly a transient post due to JRTC. Some general support units there; 4/10 should have moved up to Drum by now. The hospital is fairly small, but you should see some interesting cases since JRTC is on jump status & its not unusual for JRTC to have some deaths.

If youre a redneck, you'll love it; otherwise it can be a very long tour. Alexandria is about an hour & a half away and is the closest city w/ remote city life. Lake Charles is ok for a little aquatic fun.

There's really not much to do in Leesville.
