I need help! I have had a strong passion for Neonatal ICU nursing, it is my dream job!:redbeathe The biggest challenge that I have been running into is that NO ONE will hire in this specialty without experience (not even teaching hospitals in a big city). I have been working in adult critical care now for almost 3 years, and I feel that this exp. is being completely look past. I couldn't even get an interview for the NICU at my current hospital. I made a huge effort and even called the unit to express my interest. They are looking to hire new grads with a nicu externship, or even NA's. Do I need to take steps backwards and get a part-time NA job in the nicu?!
I am planning to volunteer as a "cuddler" in the NICU asap. I also was going to shadow a few times in a level 3 NICU. How can I get the experience that they want if they will never give me a chance?! Any advice of how I can get my "foot in the door" or more exp. would be greatly appreciated!
