free cna course

Published

I live in Northwest indiana and I'm a new divorcee. I was wondering if anyone new if there is a place that offers free cna course or discounted courses.

replied to wrong post sorry

Specializes in CNA.

As a general rule, there are virtually no free CNA courses. A small number of institutions, primarily nursing homes (LTC's) will offer a course in exchange for your signing a contract to work there for some period of time.

As a generalization, the least expensive classes that are most available are in the local community colleges. I say 'local' because if you're 'in district', you will get the lowest course fees. Some nursing schools and some 4 year schools offer CNA courses, but that is not the general rule. And, of course, there are 'for profit' learning businesses, but they tend to be the most expensive.

To find 'free' LTC courses, you have to ask by calling LTC's that you might be interested in.

well, if you feel like moving to west tn....there is a nursing home in Somerville, TN. called NHC....they offer the free 2 week course as long as before class starts you give an $80 money order. that just pays for the test that you take after taking the course...the state test...but the actual class is free and you don't have to sign a contract or work for NHC. You can use your certification anywhere in TN after doing the FREE class....but like i said...u have to be interested in moving to west TN or atleast staying there for 2 weeks for the course then waiting to take your test in Jackson or Memphis....then after that is done you can do the requirements to transfer your certification which i think will only cost you to take the state test of where you will be living and working.....but you won't have to take the class again.:twocents:

kelster40, i am divorced as well and you wanting to make that step into the health career is a very good choice. CNA is the best way to start and unfortunately, i don't live in indiana, so i don't know about their free cna programs, but i do know that here in charleston,sc there is a place to get your CNA for free. ****ALSO, there are MANY nursing facilities(homes) that will hire you and train you to work for them! Check into it and good luck!
