Oct 10, 201411 yr I am a former teacher. I was a non-tenured teacher with a Masters and they chose not to renew my contract (there were 5 of us in my school that this happened to). NC has become notorious for treating teachers horribly. Because I had a BS in Biology (pre-vet), nursing seemed a logical transition: nursing includes a lot of teaching and I love the medicine. Nursing SCHOOL was much more (and still is-BSN program student here) stressful, but the job is less stressful than teaching. Being a teacher we learned how to deal with parents and administration and budgets. many similarities, I think. I love nursing and can't see myself as a teacher again-maybe precepting, maybe clinical instructor. We'll see. There are SO many opportunities in nursing; more than teaching has to offer. YOu can find a niche.
