Forgot to chart a medication

Hello,

Im almost certain I forgot to chart an antibiotic that I gave IVPB last night. My question is, when I go to work tomorrow AM, can I chart it then, or how do I go about this?

If you have a specific question about how to do this at your facility, ask your supervisor as soon as you come on shift. Otherwise, you simply do a late entry, something you should have learned about in school. Again, if you have a question, ask your supervisor.

You can always chart something after the fact. Just check the chart, and then ask your supervisor for directions. It happens all the time! No worries, you can still chart it. They didn't teach us anything about late charting in school either. We learned a little during orientation, but who remembers all the crap they throw at ya during that process!?!?

Thanks for your responses! I literally woke up in the middle of the night and thought Oh Crap! Now I can't stop thinking about it on my day off! I will check the chart first thing tomorrow, assuming the patient is still on the unit.

I woke up from being dead asleep one time realizing that I had forgotten to give a newly ordered med. I immediately called the facility and spoke to the nurse on duty, who took care of the problem. A charting situation can wait until the next day unless you want to talk to a supervisor on duty to clear things up now so you can stop worrying until you get back to work.
