Forensic Nursing

Hello! I am a licensed X-ray Technician/MA in the State of Florida. Would I still have to complete an RN degree program in order to look for a program that offers Forensic Nursing.

Thanks

hello, venusk26, and welcome to allnurses.com and the forensic nursing forum

good to read of your interest about this career path. it is very interesting.

yes, a non-nurse can seek certification in forensic science. here is a link to the american college of forensic examiners institute of forensic science (acfei), for information about the certified medical investigator-ii.

also, there are other types of forensic programs out there such as the certification as a forensic video analyst, crime scene technology, forensic science/crime scene investigation, etc.

you do not have to be an rn in order to enter into the world of forensics. many degreed programs out there for the non-nurse.

but, in order to become a forensic nurse, one would have to first become lpn or rn. (and, we hope you decide upon nursing as a career path, too.;))

hope this helps in answering your questions. please do not hesitate to contact me via private message and/or post here if you have other questions/concerns.

good luck in whatever you decide. we hope you enujoy your stay at allnurses.com.
