Foreign nurses

Hi, I am a Registered Mental health Nurse in Scotlan, UK, hoping to move to California in about 2 years. How are foreign nurses viewed? Does anyone know any foreign nurses or are there any out there?

I'm pretty anxious about the whole thing but I', sure it will be cool, just need to do the NCLEX-RN exam.....i think.

Hi and welcome to allnurses! Love to hear from you across the pond as I feel a kinship there due to SO being from Essex, East End of London.

Good luck coming over! Tip: California has nurse vs patient ratios that are mandatory legally. That is a big plus about california nursing. The cost of living is might hefty there, but apparently the salaries are in keeping with that. Good luck no matter where you relocate...check with the national or board of nursing in your country/region regarding the next step in getting over, profession wise....do you have a sponsor yet?

We have heard rumors that some nurses from other countries are allowed to slap patients in their country and seem to bring that with them. We had an inservice from a doctor who states that your psych is much better than ours as to, and tell me if this is true, that you give a day or two of PO meds then if no side effects move right on to the decanoate injections.
