FNP Schools

Hi I am looking to start my FNP in January and have applied to a few schools. I received my MSN at WGU and want to get my FNP. I applied to Maryville, Regis College and Chamberlain and have been accepted by all of these, does anyone have any thoughts about these schools? I also applied to Simmons, but I am currently waiting for the decision! Any thoughts and opinions would be great!

I do not have opinions and every nurse is looking for different things when attending school.  Unlike your MSN, your FNP obviously requires a large number of clinical hours.  One obstacle I have heard from students is that some schools do not help with clinical placements.  That may be something to look at; as well as accreditation and board passage rates.

This may be helpful in comparing the programs you are considering.

Good luck with your decision and with your FNP!

It can sometimes be difficult to get clinical placement if you're attending a non-brick & mortar school like Maryville or Chamberlain. I'm not saying it is impossible, but those schools do have reputations as degree mills and many sites will not accept students who attend these types of institutions.

Have you looked into brick & mortar schools that offer clinical placement? They are usually much less expensive than Chamberlain. Plus you have the added benefit of being placed in your clinicals and don't have that added stress. Most of them have all their non-clinical courses online.

Good luck with your decision. Don't be hasty. Take a look at your area and see what the trends are for NPs (e.g. hiring, clinicals, etc.).

Would be nice to see if there is any other source besides US News regarding rankings.....sometimes I feel one needs more information about the program and what is going on in them instead of just a number....can anyone of you help with this?  Thanks!

I’m curious if you have made you decision for your FNP degree? I too have looked at these schools, except Chamberlain. I’m looking into the online FNP/PNP programs.

If you have a non-nursing bachelor's degree, University of South Alabama has both the RN to MSN FNP or RN to DNP FNP program.

If you only have your ADN but no BSN or bachelor's in another field, they do have an online RN to BSN and then you can transition to FNP.

I have Associate in Nursing and masters in Healthcare

Then you would apply for the RN to MSN or RN to DNP program in the specialty track you wish (e.g. FNP, ACNP, etc.)

You can directly contact Brea Mosley in the Graduate Nursing Advising Office for more information about the RN-MSN Pathway for RN's with a Non-Nursing Bachelor Degree: [email protected] or 251/445-9400.

I have 7 years of experience in Hospital as LPN and CRA 6years and teaching faculty in Allied health 4 years etc.South Alabama website asking 2 years experience in the field of interest, will check with councilor.Thanks.
