Go to Salary.com

They've got pretty good tools for looking at local, regional, state, and specialty salaries.

They even go as far as to adjust for total compensation (insurance, 401, vacation, education and such)....

AND if you are looking at private practice, you should still use salary.com to get an idea of what total take home you should look for if you are NOT salaried.

Hope this helps!

If I were you I would go the CRNA route. You will be guaranteed a high paying position. There are 2 excellent CRNA programs in Houston - UT Health Science Center and Baylor.

The NP jobs in Houston are paying well at this time, but this could change with the surge of new NP's coming onto the market. There are few CRNA schools and few qualified applicants, so there will always be a demand for them.

The pay for NP's in Houston is anywhere from $72,000/yr to $120,000/yr. The starting pay for CRNA's is around $150,000/yr in most parts of the country.

Specializes in ICU, CV-Thoracic Sx, Internal Medicine.

I was under the impression that most salary on-line website only contain base salary information. There was a discussion somewhere in this BB where several NP's were chiming in that their base salary was only part of their total take home. I may be wrong but don't some private practice groups offer a profit sharing incentive for $$ billed?

at salary.com the basic information is based on base salary/pay...however, you can plug in the other stuff too like bonuses, time off, taxes etc.....

I would say it all comes down to how you see your life unfolding and what kind of stress and shifts you can tolerate. I know without a doubt (as I approach 40) that I do not want the critical care aspect and do not want to even think about another day at the hospital that starts at 0'dark thirty! I also enjoy an ongoing relationship with my patients and love patient education and prevention......so CRNA is OUT for me!
