FNP moving to TX

Published

I'm a new grad FNP who will be moving to TX. Boyfriend lives there currently. I recently passed the AANP board exam. I'm a little confused about the necessary steps. Do I apply for prescriptive authority # first then my DEA license #? I just looked at the checklist provided in the BON website but it seems like it's only for prescriptive licensing. I'd appreciate any help.

Hi,

I'm an ACNP in Houston. Start with prescriptive authority through the BON. After that, you'll need DPS and DEA numbers for Texas, but you can't apply for these until you have a sponsoring physician.

Congrats and Good Luck!

How long does the prescriptive authority take? What about the DPS and DEA? A colleague mentioned hers took 2 weeks because she mailed all her documents together in one packet. Another mentioned that hers took 6 weeks (OMG!).

Seems like I remember prescriptive authority taking the longest, but I'm not sure. If you don't have a job yet, you'll have to wait on the DPS and DEA.

The forms in for APRN licensure is asking where will my home state be? For RN it was in NV but for FNP, I'm moving to texas. Can I use my boyfriends home address so I can name texas as my home state for FNP?

That's the only way you will be able to complete the application.
