Fluids only compatible at Y site

Published

Hi guys,

I have what may seem like a totally dumb question. If a doctor orders an IVPB med such as antibiotic or electrolyte but on Trissels it only says it’s compatible with the primary fluids at the Y site, do you just put it on its own pump and Y it BELOW the pump or would you pause the current primary fluids and hang the med with compatible fluids?

This is a question mainly for antibiotics but really ANY med that is only compatible at the Y site.

thanks!

Trissel's compatibility is usually based on differentiating Y site or admixture compatibility. If it says it's Y site compatible you can run it as a secondary above or below the pump.
