Florida LPN's

Published

Hello All!

Just trying to get a feel for the job market for LPN's along the gulf coast of Florida. Are LPN's being replaced with MA's? What is the salary range and sense of job security? Are most of the jobs only in LTC facilities or are there options for a clinical setting? What are the options for education to RN?

Thanks in advance!

Hi :)

I moved to FL a few years ago. In my old state, we didn't have MAs, at least, none that I saw. They are used in abundance down here. I have seen most physician offices are staffing with MAs, as opposed to LPNs. That said, there are still many areas in which LPNs are used down here, that cannot be staffed with MAs.

A lot of companies down here use LPNs in field case management. I did this for awhile and really liked the job. LPNs are of course utilized in LTC, corrections, insurance companies, urgent care centers, and home health. LPNs are also in the hospitals, depending on the system. I haven't seen FL hospital utilize LPNs, but Orlando Health has a lot of them.

So, while I do see that MAs have taken a lot of the physician office positions, there are still a lot of options open to you.

Good luck!

ETA: I forgot the education component. There are definitely a lot of bridge programs available down here. When I chose to bridge, I had 5 different bridge programs around me to choose from. I picked one that had a great reputation, NCLEX pass rates in the upper 90s, and tuition that I could afford to pay out of pocket for.
